Coconut Oil in the Bathroom?
I keep a bucket of organic, cold-pressed coconut oil in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. Obviously the one in the kitchen is primarily for cooking. Although there are dozens of compelling reasons for keeping another in the bathroom, this is where it really began.
It all started when I over-processed my hair. I was bummed because I love my hair. I’m attached to it (literally and non-literally). Desperate for anything that could help this cotton candy like mass on my head, I went to one beauty store after another searching for anything that would help my Frankenstein’s Bride-like, hair’s appearance. For days I tried every treatment you can imagine. I was disappointed to say the least.
I scoured internet forums for ideas to cure my spider-webbed hair condition. I wasn’t about to resort to, “Cut your hair off”. In a last ditch effort my prayers were answered. I read about another over-processed head. She, in her desperation, coated her hair with coconut oil, wrapped it up in a warm towel for 30 minutes, washed her hair, and was astounded by the results. I was mad at myself for not thinking of it first.
Was there hope for me? I ran to my kitchen, grabbed my coconut oil and coated my hair, sat in my infrared sauna (trying to repent for the paraben laden products I had used), put more coconut oil in my hair, braided it, then slept with it in overnight.
I showered right away the next morning, and was having a glimmer of hope when I was able to run my fingers through my hair for the first time in days. I got out of the shower, put in an all-natural leave in conditioner and combed through with my fingers. Unbelievably, my hair smoothed out and even dried shiny. I didn’t have that greasy, after-treatment look. While I still treat my hair with kid gloves, I am in total awe of the progress, and thankful for not having to cut my hair off.
So excited with the results of the coconut oil, I called my sister who also works at Happy Bodies, to share this incredible news. I waited for her, “Wow! That’s unbelievable” or “great idea!”. Instead there was silence…more pausing. Then, she said, “Yeah, that’s what I do.” It felt like, “Duh, no kidding!”.
I am using the coconut oil about once a week now to put shine and health back in to my locks and seeing improvement with each treatment. And let me tell you, this is a steal compared to the cost of the hair treatments I bought.
I now use this coconut oil on everything; I really do. I use it on my hair, skin, my daughter’s diaper rash, scrapes, burns, you name it. At this great price, I can keep a big bucket in my kitchen and one in my bathroom.
